Our Speaker: Professor Michael J. Klarman is the Kirkland & Ellis Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where he joined the faculty in 2008. He received his B.A. and M.A. (political theory) from the University of Pennsylvania, his J.D. from Stanford Law School, and his D. Phil. in legal history from the University of Oxford, where he was a Marshall Scholar. After law school, Professor Klarman clerked for the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He was previously on the faculty of the University of Virginia School of Law.
Klarman has won numerous awards for his teaching and scholarship, which are primarily in the areas of Constitutional Law and Constitutional History. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. His most recent book is: The Framers' Coup: The Making of the United States Constitution. He is also the author of From Jim Crow to Civil Rights: The Supreme Court and the Struggle for Racial Equality, for which he received the Bancroft Prize in History; Brown v. Board of Education and the Civil Rights Movement; Unfinished Business: Racial Equality in American History; and From the Closet to the Altar: Courts, Backlash, and the Struggle for Same-Sex Marriage.
Our Collaboration & Breakout Discussion Sessions: This event is a collaboration of all of the Harvard Clubs of Northern New England: The Harvard Club in Maine, The Harvard Club of New Hampshire, The Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Vermont, The Harvard Club of the North Shore, the Harvard Club of the Merrimack Valley, and the Harvard Club in Concord. After Professor Klarman addresses our plenary Zoom session, we will have breakout discussion sessions for each of the Clubs from 6:45-7:00.
